How to be a part of HATC.ca
How to be a part of HATC.ca
You will see a tool box on the left hand side of the site – these tools enable you to interact with the site and add your own content. In turn you enhance the site and High Altitude Triathlon Club – it’s a win-win!
As a member you can use the tools to post content in one of four ways:
Events
Photos
Discussions (a.k.a. Forum)
Classifieds
You can also invite people you know to join the site by sending them an invite. Currently membership is automatic – meaning anyone that signs up gets automatically approved to the group.
Getting Started
Before we get into individual postings I’d like to point out a few general features:
Public vs. Private
When you make a post using the tools you will be asked if you would like your posting to be public or not. Public postings are viewable by anyone perusing www.hatc.ca i.e. non-members will be able to see the site. If you would like your posting to remain private i.e. only viewable by logged in HATC members, then please remember to uncheck the ‘public’ box before submitting your post.
Content
Another feature you should know is that members cannot delete each others’ posts. Only the site manager can do that. Any postings deemed inappropriate will be deleted. Be warned!
Tagging
Whenever possible, add ‘tags’ to your postings. They help keep the site front and centre on a google search and they help with website administration. Tags commonly used for HATC posts might include: triathlon, olympic sports, swimming, biking, cycling, road biking, running, training
Events
Members can post events to the site’s calendar. Feel free to add races that you may be attending or group training meets that you have organized.
Public posts that you make on www.hatc.ca may be posted to other local community calendars. For example if you live in Rossland and post an event tagged with ‘biking’ it may be posted to www.bikerossland.ca and www.rosslandevents.com - the great part about this feature is free local advertising for your event!
Make sure that you regularly check the events calendar to see what’s going on the the world of HATC!
PS Remember to uncheck private events you want to post to the calendar like a potluck dinner for HATC members only.
Photos
When posting photos, you will get redirected to our host site – www.bhubble.com - but don’t worry, your pictures will only appear on www.hatc.ca.
You can upload your pictures in any order and then reorganize them later. You can also add comments and tags. Let us know where you took the pictures and whose in them!
Discussions
PLEASE NOTE: The discussions page will replace group emailing.
When you registered you would have been asked whether or not you would like to receive notification emails. If you chose not to receive these emails, then please note you will no longer receive group communications. You will be responsible for checking the website and keeping yourself up to date on training meets, social and race events.
If, however, you opted to receive group notifications then you will be kept totally up to date with all the things going on with HATC. If it’s posted on the discussions page then you will hear about it! Lucky you!
The best features of this new system are:
1. Members can get in touch with the whole group (or at least all the ones receiving notifications) without having to go through Seth, Janis or the website administrator.
2. The group member list is always up to date. Meaning consistency in group communication and new members won’t miss out.
3. You have total control over how much or how little you want to hear from HATC.
Posting discussions is very easy, just click on “Start a discussion” and get typing.
Classifieds
As a triathlete you have probably obtained a fair amount of equipment over the years. Now you can sell it easily and for free on www.hatc.ca. So get going – there are probably plenty of Newbies out there just itching for a good deal on some previously used equipment!
